The event is expected to attract both international and local participants.

The derby is aimed at displaying different cultural diversities and practices of communities from Samburu County which includes the Samburu, Borana, Turkana, Pokot and Rendille.

County Tourism executive Peter Leshakwet said on Tuesday that the county is well prepared for the event.

"This is the 27th edition of this event since we started and the main reason for this is to promote tourism, cultural diversity through sports, and promotion of peace and cohesion among our pastoral communities," Leshakwet said.

He added that the funds raised from the will be used in the conservation of wildlife and creation of tourism facilities.

More than 300 police officers have been deployed

in the town to beef up security during the three-day event.

Police coordinating commander, Washington Ajuoga said the move has been taken to ensure security of citizens and tourists.

The areas where police have been deployed include Rumuruti Maralal road, Isiolo Wamba road and Wamba Maralal road.

Ajuoga urged the public to volunteer information to the police that would lead to arrests of any suspected criminals.

He added that all minors under the age of 18 years should leave the Yare camel camp by 6 pm.

"If we find minors in any bar at night we shall close it down and withdraw their licence," he said.

Safe sex activist Stanley ‘King of Condoms’ Ngara said that he will be distributing in anticipation of the high number of visitors expected to attend the event.

Commercial sex workers from Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi and Meru have already filled the few entertainment joints in the sleepy town.
