Mombasa county commissioner Mohamed Maalim

has been transferred to Kisumu in the latest shake-up of security officials.

The commissioner had been

transferred from Bungoma in May to replace

Evans Achoki, who was sent to Murang'a.

Achoki has been recalled to Mombasa from where he was dramatically removed.

He had also served in Mt Elgon where he spearheaded the operation to wipe out the dreaded Sabaot Land Defence Force militia.

John Elung'ata is the new Murang'a county commissioner.

Maalim confirmed his transfer but did not reveal the reasons behind the move.

Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa was once quoted saying the commissioner had been reluctant in the fight against insecurity.

But Maalim refuted claims of bad blood between them.

“I had no fight with anyone. I received the matching orders and I am now at work in Kisumu," he said. "We are all Kenyans... We should serve the nation with all our effort."

Maaalim was instrumental in containing notorious gangs at the Coast including Wakali Kwanza, Wakali Wao and Watalia.

Some of the criminals had been linked to a series of armed robberies and sexual assaults against women.

In July, Maalim commissioned a swoop in Kisauni leading to the killing of three men suspected to be al Shabaab terrorists.

Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba's step-brother was killed in the operation during which three hand grenades were found.

Politicians including Bedzimba and Governor Hassan Joho criticised the commissioner but he did not relent in efforts against crime.

youths were

, whipped with crude weapons and chased through the Kisumu CBD.
