DP William Ruto has asked leaders from Lamu county to join Jubilee so that the country gets a common party that will unite Kenyans.

Ruto said the Jubilee government is keen to ensure Kenyans are united ahead of the 2017 general elections.

He told the leaders to desist from divisive politics and instead strive for a peaceful political environment.

He said by joining Jubilee, the leaders will help fast-track development in the country.

Ruto made it clear that Jubilee was keen on uniting all Kenyans under one political alliance.

He appealed to Lamu governor Issa Timamy, MPs Julius Ndegwa (Lamu West), Athman Shariff (Lamu East) and woman rep Shakilla Abdalla to ditch their parties and join forces with the ruling coalition.

"This is the time Kenyans need to be in one convoy. I'm calling on all Lamu leaders to join Jubilee so that we can walk together in 2017. Lets stay away from divisive politics. The issue of tribe or race shouldn’t arise. Jubilee’s manifesto pledges to unite all Kenyans and that’s why we are here," Ruto said.

The DP criticised the opposition Cord saying they had portrayed their confusion and inability to be able to pick a presidential candidate for the August 8 polls.

Ruto asked Kenyans to fix their eyes on Jubilee instead since "it is more organised".

"These so called three principals of Cord are not heading anywhere. They can’t even choose a presidential candidate from amongst themselves. How then do they expect to head over 40 million Kenyans?" the DP said.

Ruto was also accompanied by Tana River governor Hussein Dado, MPs Khatib Mwashetani, Kwale woman representative Zainab Chidzuga, former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana and Embu senator Lenny Kivuti.
