Following the naming and endorsement of

former PS Ali Korane as the sole flagbearer for the governor position by the Abuduwak community, the focus now shifts to the other seats.

During the endorsement two weeks ago, the community’s sultan, Dekhow Sambul, said the council of elders will identify one flagbearer in each constituency for the MP seat.

The community will identify parliamentary aspirants for Garissa Town, Fafi and Balamba in September. The three constituencies are predominantly inhabited by the Abuduwak community.

Sambul said the other positions include woman representative and senator. Elders will give direction on who the community should support. In Garissa Town, incumbent MP Aden Duale is being challenged by Abdi Yarre of ANC and Siyat Osman of Kanu — all from the Abuduwak clan. The clan is the largest vote bloc in Garissa county. Former Garissa mayor Siyat Osman is among those who have declared

their interest in the Gasrissa Township parliamentary seat.

Duale said

his vast experience will propel the constituency to better prosperity because his development record during his two terms as the mayor of Garissa town speaks volumes.

Siyat spoke to the press in Garissa Town on Saturday. He said he will abide by the verdict of the elders, who will determine the clan’s flagbearer to face off with former National Assembly deputy speaker Farah Maalim from the Auliyahn subclan.

“I will abide by the verdict of the council of elders if they will be fair. I have stepped down twice in favour of other candidates following the elders’ decision. They should give me a good reason why I should step down for the third time,” said Osman.
