Cord leader Raila Odinga has assured aspirants seeking to fly the coalition's flag of free and fair nominations.

Parties in the coalition enjoy good democratic space, he said, adding structures are in place to address any protests during the primaries.

"We don't want people to jump from this party to the other. All we want is to see people work together to strengthen available instruments of power," he said.

The opposition leader reiterated his support for IEBC reforms by the joint select committee which presented its report to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday.

"The report also addresses party hopping and mismanagement of nominations which the IEBC will now directly take part in," he said at Ukunda during his tour of the Coast region.

The Cord leader is touring the region to solidify his support base ahead of the August 8, 2017 general election.

Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, who accompanied Raila to the tour, said candidates hopping from one outfit to another were affecting the performance of parties.

Omar said individuals were taking advantage of the loopholes in law on party hopping to blackmail others.

"There will be no room for people to make unsubstantiated allegations. We are looking forward to working with everyone who supports democracy and believes in good laws," he said.

The select committee on IEBC demanded that the commission be involved in all party nominations to ensure they are free and fair.

Officials have previously used

party nominations to hawk certificates to the highest bidders.
