Kakamega woman representative Rachel Ameso

yesterday said she will launch a major political campaign to become the first woman MP for Khwisero constituency.

She said she wants to change the political landscape in Khwisero because men have failed to inspire all-round development.

Addressing journalists at Khumailo shopping centre, Ameso said she will mainly focus her development on the needs of the elderly, women and youth.

"I want Khwisero to have good schools, quality healthcare services, improved modern farming techniques, and nurture youth into responsible citizens," she said.

The constituency is marred with rampant defilement, early pregnancies and a high school drop-out rate among girls, Ameso said.

She said incumbent Benjamin Andola has deserted residents and settled in his Kitale home.

The woman representative said Andola has failed to diligently represent his people in the National Assembly, leading to underdevelopment.

Time has come for Khwisero residents to seek leadership change, Ameso said.

The community will languish in poverty for the next five years if residents “make another mistake”, she said.

“People of Khwisero need to be alert when electing leaders. Stop voting on the basis of handouts. It will kill you as the people you elect squander your money,” Ameso said.

“I want you to change your voting pattern and give a trial to a woman.”

The legislator added, “Khwisero will realise drastic change in terms of development and leadership. I know the buttons to press for my people to benefit from both the county and the national governments.”

Ameso said she will ensure all homes in Khwisero have piped water and electricity.
