Boda boda riders working within the Linda Boni operation zones have been asked to close business by 10pm daily.
Lamu deputy county commissioner Willliam Magiri said the curfew will allow security forces to conduct patrols without hindrance.
The order was issued after it emerged that riders plying Bargoni, Kiunga, Milimani and Basuba routes had been working beyond the stipulated time limit.
Magiri asked the riders to honour the directive, saying on Wednesday that
it was for public safety.
"We want them to close by that time to that security forces can
take charge of the roads and other places and ensure we are safe," he said.
The commissioner warned that those found operating beyond the hour will be arrested and promptly prosecuted for breach of security regulations.
"You shall be treated like a criminal. All this is in the interest of the public," said Magiri.
He urged locals to cooperate with security forces and embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative so as to identify individuals with criminal intent.
