40 heads of States to attend TICAD conference in Nairobi

Over forty heads of states, UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon and top AU officials will attend the sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development summit at KICC in Nairobi later this month.

Foreign Affairs CS on Tuesday said all is set for the function that will be held between August 27 and 28.

In a breakfast show on a local TV station, Amina called on Kenyans to attend the conference whose themes are health, trade and investment, youth and governance.

“I hope Kenyans will take up the chance during TICAD to interact with others from other countries,” she stated.

She said the ministerial meeting on the conference will be held in Gambia.

Last week, a special adviser to Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe met President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss the summit.

Katsuyuki Kawai delivered a letter from Abe, praising the long cooperation between Kenya and Japan.

It is the first time Ticad is being held in Africa since its inception in 1993.

The decision to host the summit in Africa was reached during the Ticad V Summit in 2013, when it was agreed the venue of subsequent Ticad summits be alternated between Japan and Africa.
