The Star newspaper's Parliament reporter Gideon Keter has been elected chairman of the Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association in a repeat poll.

His first victory was challenged by his closest competitor Roselyn Obala through a petition

to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

Obala asked Muturi

to call for fresh elections after losing to Keter; she garnered nine votes against his 15.

When the polls were repeated on Monday, Keter garnered 21 votes while

Obala got 19.

Obala claimed in her petition that the elections were not "open, free and fair", and that they violated KPJA laws.

The journalist argued there were serious irregularities and that the annual general meeting was hijacked.

She also claimed outsiders and non-compliant members of the KPJA were allowed to vote.

In today's elections, Edwin Obuya won the vice chairman post while Chemtai Goin was elected secretary general.

Carol Korir was voted deputy secretary general while Ruth Wanjiku became organising secretary.

The position of treasurer was filled by Wilfred Ayaga and Kennedy Muriithi was elected the media liaison.
