Police in Bahati, Nakuru county have on Monday impounded more than 210 litres of ethanol and arrested two suspects.

A woman and her husband managed to escape, leaving behind two children who were handed over to the Children Welfare Department.

County police commandant Hassan Baruwa said they received information that an illegal alcohol plant was operating at Maili Sita in Kiamaina area.

Members of the public had reported seeing a vehicle taking jerrycans of suspicious substance to the homestead.

A raid at the home led to the arrests and the seizure of seven jerricans, each with 30 litres of ethanol.

Baruwa said police are still in pursuit of the remaining culprits.

But area MP Kimani Ngunjiri accused the OCPD stationed at Maili Sita for failing to eradicate the brewing and supply of illegal alcohol.

"For [it] to come there must have been a collusion between the brewers, suppliers and security agents in the area," he said.

He also appealed to residents to report people suspected of brewing and supplying illegal liquor in the area.
