All 28 elected and nominated UDF leaders in Vihiga should declare their stand, after indications it will dissolve to join the yet-to-be-launched Jubilee Party.

The party’s officials attended last week’s press conference at State House where it was named as one of the 12 to merge into JP.

ANC secretary general Godfrey Ososti said the leaders should no longer remain non-partisan.

The majority of UDF leaders are from the county. They include Senator George Khaniri, MPs Alfred Agoi (Sabatia), Yusuf Chanzu (Vihiga) and 25 MCAs. Last week, Chanzu pulled out of all ANC WhatsApp groups.

The secretary general spoke on Saturday at a function in Bugina Secondary School. He criticised the politicians for taking the issue lightly.

He warned that those who do not join ANC risk losing their seats, as they rode on Mudavadi’s influence to win the seats they hold.

“They should let us know if they went along with the party into Jubilee,” Osotsi said.

“You have three options, follow UDF into Jubilee, become independent, or join another party.”

Khaniri, who attended function, steered clear of the issue when he spoke. He said, however, talks are ongoing between ODM leader Raila Odinga and Mudavadi.

But Osotsi denied this, saying there are no talks with anybody. “Tell your friend Raila to hand over the baton to Mudvadi so he can salvage this country.” Mudavadi is on record urging voters to reject any aspirant from Vihiga who will not contest on the ANC ticket.

Governor Moses Akaranga, who works closely with MCAs, has pledged to work with Jubilee. The call by Osotsi will, therefore, complicate matters for the ward reps.

They have to choose between Mudavadi and their loyalty to the governor. Their decisions will determine whether they will be re-elected or not.
