Murang'a MCA Jesse Gitau has told a Kibera court that he has not been on the run for 10 years as alleged.

Gitau

through his lawyer

said

he never knew that the case was in court.

He blamed police for not issuing the summons to him adding "the warrant issued was for last year and not 10 years ago".

The prosecution said the case has been on and off due to high court cases that had been filed.

This, the DPP said led to the case being stayed and later withdrawn but later fresh charges were made against the accused persons.

Gitau argued that as a honorable member he can not be on the run since he represents constituents.

He said the police could have found him if they wanted to give him summons.

On Thursday, Gitau appeared at the court where he was to be charged

with forgery after allegedly dodging police for 10 years.

Gitau is alleged to have conspired with others to forge a title deed in 2005.

Police have been looking for him since 2006 despite the fact that he campaigned for the MCA seat in 2013.
