Officers in the elite Recce squad who have joined Operation Linda Boni claim they do not get food and allowances.
They have camped at Milimani Primary School in Lamu county, saying they have been deserted just like the school since they joined the mission.
"We have been undergoing a rough time. We have not been paid allowances since we came here. What we have now is just our salaries," one said.
The well-trained officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, have been part of the operation against al Shabaab militants for two weeks now.
Several of their colleagues have been killed in the fight against the terrorists who live in the forest with their families.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino said the allowances problem has to do with decisions concerning the financial year.
"But I am sure those involved are working on it," Owino told the Star by phone on Wednesday evening.
He noted that the General Service Unit, which includes the Recce Squad, is among
several recognised and well-disciplined force which are valued by the government.
