Power has been connected to Konza Techno City following the opening of a major substation by the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company.

Project manager Samson Akuto said local and international investors can now embark on their operations within the technocity, assuring them of reliable, efficient and affordable power supply.

“The Konza substation will ensure Konza Techno City has adequate and reliable power to meet the power needs for the medium term,” he said. The substation will supply electricity to Konza and Machakos environs.

The 12-kilometre transmission line has a capacity of 73MW with 132kV single circuit line and two 132/33kV substations at Konza and Machakos. Akuto said the Konza substation will tap hydro, geothermal and thermal power loop-in-loop-out arrangement from existing Juja – Rabai line.
