Kenya Sevens started their chase for an Olympic medal on a losing note, going down 31-7 to an impressive Great Britain side in Rio on Tuesday.

The British dominated possession and territory, with skipper Tom Mitchell orchestrating things alongside Dan Bibby and James Rodwell

It came as no surprise when speedstar Dan Norton crossed the line for an unconverted try, following a sweeping move to give his team a 5-0 lead.

Great Britain were to recover possession from the kickoff, and Sam Burgess crossed the chalk with Mitchell, converting for a 12-0 lead.

Shujaa could hardly get out of their own half, with the British employing rush defence to contain Kenya.

Billy Odhiambo received possession and knocked it on as frustration began to mount for Benjamin Ayimba's charges.

Things went from bad to worse when a ruck from James Rodwell looked to be in an offside position.

But on tackle, Rodwell passed the ball to Dan Bibby who touched down at the corner for an unconverted try, and a 17-0 lead.

Kenya Sevens were guilty of poor ball handling and poor decision making.

Mark Bennet scored Great Britain a fourth try on the stroke of half time and a 24-0 lead at the interval

On resumption, Kenya came out firing on all cylinders and Billy Odhiambo reduced the deficit with a well worked try.

Biko Adema kicked over the conversion for a 24-5 lead.

Kenya tried to rally but were on the wrong end of the referees calls and handling errors and Bibby scored the final try of the match

Kenya will play New Zealand at 11.30pm

in its second pool match
