A long distance truck ferrying goods to Uganda on Saturday rammed into a hotel where former ODM Secretary General Ababu Namwamba was holding a meeting with youth.
The Budalang'i MP was holding a meeting with youth from Teso North and South subcounties at Hotel Levantes in Amagoro town. The hotel is a well-known venue for political meetings in the region.
Guards scampered for safety as the speeding truck rammed into the hotel's gate but no one was injured during the 5pm incident.
Traffic police officers came from Malaba police station to help find an alternative route that was used by Ababu to exit the hotel as the truck blocked the main gate.
The incident paralysed the smooth flow of traffic along the busy Bungoma-Malaba highway.
Ababu arrived at noon to meet 2017 MCA aspirants from the two subcounties.
He was accompanied by about 50 youth from his constituency who donned t-shirts with inscriptions 'Ababu Smart' and 'Mulembe Consciousness'.
Namwamba also used the occasion to criticizse Attorney General Githu Muigai and MPs proposing that next year's general elections be postponed.
"We want the elections to be held on August 8, 2017 and any sinister motives to change the date will be resisted at all costs," he said.
Ababu is traversing Teso subregion, meeting organised youth and women groups as he fights to stamp his authority in Western Kenya.
He also wants to ensure the Western region votes as a block in next year's polls.
The outspoken MP is expected to hold more meetings with youth from Western region after cutting ties with ODM, a party through which he sailed through to Parliament in 2013.
