The commission on human rights has moved to court to oppose the planned closure of Dadaab refugee camp.

KNHCR says disbandment of the department of refugee affairs is illegal and has far reaching negative effects on the rights and freedom of refugees.

The rights lobby says that asylum seekers within the republic will be denied access to vital services offered by the department.

In an application on Monday, the commission said closure of the camp will occasion danger and persecution of refugees.

The commission argues forcible return of refugees without a proper assessment of their security concern puts the group's lives at risk.

They sought orders directing the State to reinstate and resume operation of the department of refugee affairs as constituted before the May 6, 2016 directive.

The commission also wants the directives outlined in the May 6 press release squashed.

The statement had explained Kenya's move to close Dadaab camp, which hosts about 300,000 refugees.

The government explained that the camp was being shut down over

"very heavy" economic, security and environmental burdens.
