Bomachoge Borabu MP Joel Onyancha on Friday supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stand not to hold talks with Cord over the IEBC.

Onyancha said Cord leader Raila Odinga is playing games to have the commission disbanded.

“I am urging the Cord leader to read the constitution, which he personally fought for, instead of trying to violate the same,” he said.

Raila should first read the constitution before making such demands, Onyancha said.

He spoke at Kenyenya Teachers Training College during it second graduation ceremony.

The legislator said it will be unconstitutional to remove from office officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. The rule of law must be respected by following the right procedure in addressing problems, Onyancha said.

The legislator also criticised Raila for claiming that Deputy President William Ruto has been discouraging dialogue.

“I cannot understand the former Prime Minister’s position because he has since made claims that it is the DP Ruto who has been blocking talks,” Onyancha said.

Onyancha said the stalemate can only be solved if the opposition presents a petition in Parliament for discussion.

He said Cord’s plans to demonstrate today and every other Monday to push for the disbandment of the IEBC will not solve the problem.
Some people use the protests to damage people’s property.

On Friday, during the Annual National Prayer Breakfast, Uhuru told Raila to read the constitution which states the procedure for disbanding the IEBC.
