Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich will on Wednesday present the 2016-17 national Budget statement. Rotich has defied ceilings MPs set in the Budget Policy Statement and allocated billions to several state agencies.

“This is to notify the public that the Budget Statement for the Fiscal Year 2016-17 will be delivered by the CS Treasury to the National Assembly on Wednesday, the 08th June, 2016 at 3pm,” a statement by Treasury PS Kamau Thugge reads.

Various House committees have been meeting with the Budget and Appropriations Committee to present proposals from respective ministries and government departments.

As MPs resume work tomorrow, they are also expected to conclude the passage of all the remaining constitutional bills. They will be required to fast-track key bills that did not see the light of the day last year.

The extended period for the conclusion of all the constitutional bills by one year lapses in August. Failure to meet the deadline could plunge the House into a constitutional crisis, leading to its dissolution.

The Constitutional Implementation Oversight Committee said it will not seek another extension to pass pending constitutional bills.
