Seven government land officers have been arrested for involvement in a cartel. They were caught selling land in Kipkelion East, Kericho county, last week.

County commissioner Mukatar Abdi said the seven were arrested on Tuesday with other members of the public trying to sell government land without consent form the concerned authority.

He cautioned buyers to verify documents before transacting.

Abdi said the national government is not selling land in Kericho.

The seven suspects were due to arraigned before a Kericho court on Thursday but investigating officers had not finalised work.

They were arrested by Londiani police then handed over to relevant authority as they wait for investing officers to finalize their work before charging them with the land selling offence.

Abdi also warned illicit brew dealers in the county .He told those behind the outlawed business that their days are numbered unless they engaged in descent income generating projects for their livelihood.

While addressing the Madaraka day celebrations at Kericho Green Stadium on Wednesday,Muktar said notorious Changaa and Busaa illicit brew dealers had been jailed and others set free by local courts after paying huge fines after being charged with the offense.

He warned chiefs colluding with the brewers after parting being given protection fees by them (brewers) that they risked being sacked and their position taken by other chiefs who are dedicated to their jobs.
