The Judiciary has set up a court at the JKIA that Chief Justice Willy Mutunga will officially launch on Tuesday.

The court will handle cases at Jomo Kenyatta International and Wilson airports, that were handled at Kibera and Makadara law courts.

The cases concern matters including traffic offences and the smuggling of drugs.

The court will be headed by

a

senior principal magistrate.

Peter Mulwa,

Registrar Magistrates Court, said on Saturday that the development will ensure the proper management of exhibits to prevent evidence tampering.

Several cases of the transportation of drugs via the JKIA have been reported in the past.

A Chinese man found with was arrested at the airport on April 11. The 40-year-old was on his way from Cameroon to Guangzhou in China.

In May, a 50-year-old valued at more than Sh5 million was arrested on his way from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Several judges were moved in a major reshuffle on April 19 that saw the creation of new High Court stations to clear the backlog on cases.

Mutunga deployed 14

new judges to stations with the highest backlog to speed up the wheels of justice.

The crash initiative targets family, civil, commercial, criminal and constitutional cases filed before 2010.
