Two die in Kitui road accident between ambulance and lorry

Two people died instantly following a tragic road accident involving a lorry and a county government ambulance on Wednesday.

One person was injured in the accident which occurred at Ndalani bridge on Mwingi-Garissa highway following a head on collision between the vehicles.

Mwingi police boss Gerald Barasa said the lorry was coming heading to Mwingi from Garissa while the ambulance, assigned to Nuu health centre, was on its way to Nguni.

"The driver of the ambulance Nzioki Syengo Munyasya, 36 and Kalekye Katiwa, 42, the passenger who was in the front seat died instantly," Barasa said.

"Kyalo Mwikya, 32, who was seated at the back seat escaped death narrowly and was taken to Mwingi general hospital," he said.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Mwingi mortuary.

"The survivor of the accident is however in critical condition," Barasa said adding that the lorry was speeding at the time of the accident.

However, Sammy Mukera, the driver of the lorry sustained bruises on the forehead. He was treated and discharged.

The wreckage of the ambulance was towed to Mwingi police station but the lorry remained at the scene of the accident

Barasa asked drivers to be careful when on narrow sections of the road.
