Mandera residents have urged the county government to upscale its effort in tackling a cholera outbreak as the number of those hospitalised hit 800.

Health chief officer Mariam Dahir on Monday said 15 people have died. Elder Ibrahim Alio said the situation is worsening.

He said the disease has claimed more lives than the department is saying. Alio said people are being buried daily in Mandera town villages. The Kenya Red Cross has scaled up awareness programmes and treatment of water.
