Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia has accused men of abandoning their role in nurturing boys.

She said men are increasingly abdicating their role of guiding boys on men’s duties and responsibilities by not creating enough time for them and mostly leaving them with their mothers.

Macharia said fathers, uncles and other men relatives have not been attending school meetings and only mothers mostly do so.

“I urge all men here today to be more actively involved in the lives of boys so they can learn from them,” she said.

Macharia was speaking at Moi Mbiruri High School in Embu East subcounty on Friday, when she presided over a prizegiving ceremony.

She said this tendency has boys vulnerable with no one to teach them survival tactics and and what society expects of them.

Mach aria said boys have been abandoned and a lot of focus directed to girls, making boys an endangered group. She said girls’ needs should be promoted, but neither should boys be abandoned.
