South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya has said dialogue must be given a chance to end the IEBC impasse.

He said the government and the opposition should hold talks because Kenyans have expressed dissatisfaction with the commission.

Nyamweya made the remarks on Friday in Mombaba ward, Bomachoge Borabu constituency. He said the Jubilee government ought to listen to the Church, because it represents the voice of Kenyans. “It is time for the Jubilee government to sit with the opposition and discuss the IEBC matter,” Nyamweya said. “The commission should be disbanded to allow for reconstitution.”

Kenya Social Congress party national chairman Atati Kengere said the IEBC deadlock has put the country in a tight spot. “The government has no option but to hold talks with the opposition about the IEBC. The issue has generated a lot of heat,” he said. Kengere said, however, the law must be followed in disbanding the commission.

“Due process must be followed in removing the commissioners from office. The chairman and the commissioners are protected by the constitution,” he said.

Nyamweya proposed that the results announced at polling stations during elections be taken as final.
