The weapon remained lodged in the woman's skull until she was rushed to Nairobi for a specialised surgery.

The prosecution followed sustained social media outrage with #JusticeForFatuma over the incident.

Kenyans on Twitter were furious at the act which left the mother of four fighting for her life at their remote home in the North Eastern region.

Fatuma was later airlifted to Nairobi by Amref flying doctors

after health workers at the Wajir General Hospital

said they could not remove the knife.

Kenyatta National Hospital doctors safely removed the knife.
