China Road and Bridge Corporation, the contractor for the standard gauge railway, will today host President Uhuru Kenyatta at its Sultan Hamud site.

The President is expected to inspect the ongoing works on the SGR line between Mombasa and Nairobi, where 80 per cent of the civil works is completed.

The Sh327 billion project is expected to be commissioned in June next year. Commencement of the SGR operations will reduce trucks and buses on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.

Kenya Railways has said one train will haul 216 20-foot containers in a journey, the equivalent of 108 trucks on the road. “At CRBC, we see ourselves more as a provider of solutions that will improve the socioeconomic circumstances of communities,” said Steven Zhao, Manager for External Relations and Cooperation for CRBC on the SGR Project.
