‘Just as it happened with Moses in the wilderness before the people of Israel reached the promised land, some leaders have come out to undermine Malombe’

Governor Julius Malombe’s wife has said her husband is the Kitui version of the Biblical Moses, who delivered the people of Israel from captivity in Egypt.

Edith Mawia said just as Moses delivered the Israelites from slavery, Governor Malombe is keen on delivering the Kitui people from the yoke of underdevelopment, poverty and economic bondage.

She said, however, this will only happen if he is reelected for another five years. “But just as it happened with Moses in the wilderness before the people of Israel reached the promised land, some misguided leaders have come out to undermine Malombe, even before he fully delivers on his promise to Kitui,” Mawia said.

She was speaking at Kisasi dispensary in Kitui Rural subcounty on Thursday, where her family’s Kyeni Foundation gave out free baby shawls, sleepers, washing basins, drinking chocolate and sugar to new mothers.

Mawia said in just three years as the Kitui governor, Malombe has managed to initiate about 4,000 projects.

“In the interest of transparency and accountability, the Kitui government has given out booklets of all the projects undertaken in the three years as its scorecard. The projects are there for everyone to see,” she said.

Mawia said the scorecard booklets have genuine and existing projects that have been carried out.

“Ask those claiming the projects are cooked up to provide proof of their claims. Just ignore them and pray for Malombe so that he gets another five-year term to lead Kitui,” she said.

Mawia said some powerful leaders are planning to dislodge Malombe as the governor.

She asked Kitui people to pray for the governor.

“I am sure divine intervention will prevail and Malombe will be your governor beyond next year’s polls to serve you even better,” she said.

(+) I have not taken deputy governor’s job

Kitui Governor’s wife Edith Malombe has denied claims she has taken over deputy governor’s role. She said these are unfounded, malicious rumours. This comes as a rift between Deputy Governor Peninna Malonza and Governor Julius Malombe continue to escalate. The governor’s wife spoke at Sosoma when she distributed shoes to pupils of Sosoma Primary School in Nguni ward, Mwingi Central constituency on Thursday.
