Residents in major towns across the country could soon enjoy free Wi-Fi as the ICT ministry seeks to improve connectivity. CS Joe Mucheru said many businesspeople advertise their products on the internet and free Wi-Fi will go a long way in improving market reach.

Speaking in Limuru town on Wednesday when he visited a pilot incubation project, he said, “We are testing and checking the strength to see if the project is viable. We plan to reduce the cost of data bundles people purchase every day.”

Mucheru said people living outside major towns buy bundles.

“We cannot say exactly when we will launch the Wi-Fi services but hopefully it will be soon after completing research on the impact on businesses” he said.

Limuru MP John Kiragu praised the government for the initiative saying upcoming musicians will be able to reach a wider audience.

“We have a lot of talent including musicians, actors, artists and designers. The Wi-Fi will help them expand their trade,” he said.
