Preliminary investigations by the enforcement and investigations department at KRA indicate that the number plate belongs to a Land Rover pickup that the MP does not own.

“We want him to come over and explain his case, how the number plate ended up on this car whose ownership is also a misery,” said a KRA officer.

The MP was not available for comment as he did not respond to our inquiries.

On Thursday, Esther Chacha, the officer commanding the police station confirmed that the car was towed to the station after the MP allegedly failed to produce the ownership documents as had been agreed with KRA.

“This case belongs to KRA, our role is just for safe keeping of the impounded vehicles.

I have written to KRA so that they can expedite the cases so that we get space for the other cars coming in,” Chacha told the Star on Thursday.

Two weeks ago, KRA issued a public notice displaying a list of vehicles that had outstanding tax issues.

According to the notice that was widely circulated in the local media, the owners were required to present the vehicles together with the original ownership, transfer and importation documents to the investigation department by May 17, 2016.

However, the MP who was duly informed had not recovered his vehicle as required.
