Kanu abides by Cord's suspension of demos

Kanu on Thursday said Cord's decision to is not one party's affair.

Secretary General Nick Salat said the move has been adopted by all like-minded individuals seeking to have the electoral body disbanded.

Speaking to the Star, Salat said Cord's call to seek for dialogue over the matter was beyond a party and is now an issue of Kenyans with similar interests.

"Even though we are yet to come out as Kanu to convey similar calls, we are saying we abide by their decision so as to give room for engagement with the government," he said.

The secretary-general also called on the party supporters to turn up in large numbers for the parallel Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Park.

Cord intends to conduct a rally on June 1, at the same time President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, lead celebrations at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

The have been described as an affirmation of Jubilee's authority in Rift Valley after Kanu appeared to be regaining popularity.

Salat defended Kanu over its association with Cord, saying it was based on common goals.

He said: “It is unfortunate that IEBC is being protected by somebody somewhere and that is why we are calling for a talk on how we can overcome it.”

At the same time, he dismissed remarks by nominated Senator Zipporah Kittony that Kanu's support of Cord was a personal decision

He said: “Her remarks amount to personal because she is just a member."

He added that the decision to support the removal of IEBC commissioners was arrived at after discussions with top party officials.
