Political party officials in Kericho county have advised the president and his deputy not to engage Cord leaders on the disbandment of IEBC.

Kanu's regional chairman William Kettienya and his URP counterpart, Nelson Koech, said engaging Raila would only amplify the problem.

“Just keep quiet on the unfolding IEBC matters and Raila will have no grounds to hit out on you,” Kettienya urged Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.

Speaking separately to the Star on Thursday, the political leaders said Uhuru and Ruto were at the helm of leadership and should not entertain suggestions to disband the electoral body through the back door.

“Kenyans will not give [the opposition] the support they deserve by calling for disbandment of the IEBC through the back door.” Koech said.

Kettienya called for dialogue through established organs like the National Assembly and the Senate.

He also called for the process to include church leaders, to prevent a scenario similar to the 2007/8 post-election violence.

Koech said Raila and Kalonzo's chance to clinch the presidency in 2017 vanished during the last general election.

“The furthest the two principals can go during next general election is to remain as the official opposition leaders and not anywhere near the presidency,” the URP regional chairman said.
