UoN rewards 489 top students with cash, trophies

Some 489 students from the University of Nairobi were last Friday rewarded for their outstanding performance during a prize-giving ceremony at Taifa Hall in the institution.

The students, who were the best from the academic years 2011-12 and 2012-13, were given cash, trophies and certificates.

Speaking during the ceremony, vice chancellor Prof Peter Mbithi said the prize-giving day is very special.

“We are keen on awarding top achievers as they represent resilience, one of the hallmarks of university scholars,” he said.

Mbithi addressed the top students saying, “I share in your sense of pride and greatness. It is fulfilling to be a champion at this great University."

He urged students to be competitive and be global brand ambassadors for the institution.

Mbithi thanked the 82 companies who offered prizes including General Motors, Kenindia Insurance and Deloitte and Touche.

Deputy vice chancellor,for academic affairs Prof Henry Mutoro praised parents and guardians "for the sacrifices they make to give students the best education". He said students getting awards are proof that hard work pays.

Also present during the awards ceremony were members of the University Management Board, University Senate, staff and students.
