Residents of Tiriondonin in Baringo North sub-county are up in arms over the sorry state of roads in the area.

They said that the contractors assigned to work on the roads have done shoddy works.

More than 300 residents of the area said they no longer want to see their pregnant women give birth on the road.

This was after a women delivered a child while on her way to Kabartonjo health centre on Sunday.

The woman was helped by midwives after she could not be carried on a motorbike.

Robert Kaptum, a resident, said the woman had to be carried by volunteers on their shoulder but gave birth before reaching the facility.

The government, from a section of the residents, have only one week to repair the road which has been rendered impassable.

Motorists using the route have to navigate through mounds of murram soil that were left by the contractor.

Kaptum said the county government has failed to push the contractor to finish the road.

He said children have difficulties while on their way to school.

“Boda boda riders' business has also gone down. Our customers have resorted to walk for fear of slipping,” said Kiptum.

He said no leader, including Kabartonjo MCA James Cheptoo, has shown signs of tackling the matter hence the peaceful demonstrations.

Kiptum denied claims that they were paid to protest over the bad road.

Baringo governor Benjamin Cheboi said he will see to it that quality work is done in all projects under his government.

He blamed some of the delayed roadwork in the county on the national government.

"This is a problem that should be solved by Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kerra) and the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha).
