Preparations for the Mt Kenya Agricultural Show, Nanyuki, are in top gear, with 60 exhibitors having registered and confirming attendance.

On Sunday, ASK Show chairman Francis Gitonga, Laikipia woman representative Jane Apollos and other officials visited the Nanyuki showground.

The event will give the participating exhibitors an opportunity to showcase and market their products and services as well as to meet and interact with potential and current consumers.

Apollos urged residents of Laikipia and neighbouring regions to attend the show to learn more about agricultural activities.

She said many farmers have not learnt modern techniques and they have an opportunity to do so during the three-day event that starts on Friday.

“Laikipia is known globally for its meat. Farmers need to learn more about the best breeds of animals to increase their income,” Apollos said.

She said farmers should get information on what crops do well in different parts of the county, and during which season.

Gitonga said the number of exhibitors has increased, from 53 last year to 60.

He said he is optimistic the number will go up before the show starts.

“We are working closely with security officers to ensure attendants are safe. We have installed floodlights so the event can go on until late,” Gitonga said.

He urged parents to bring their children to enjoy the swings, train and camel rides.

Apart from the usual agricultural exhibitions, there will be other exhibitors like banks and insurance firms.
