The Kilifi government is set to put up a Sh300 million modern emergency and ICU complex at Kilifi County Hospital.

Governor Amason Kingi said the complex will have a Sh100 million cancer screening unit.

He said the tender for the construction of the facility has been advertised.

The health facility will be built on 12 acres.

Kingi spoke during the World Obstetric Fistula Awareness Day in Karisa Maitha Grounds, Kilifi, on Friday.

“We want to make sure that no atient is referred to Mombasa for any emergency which arises but get medical attention right here in Kilifi,” Kingi said.

The governor said many people, especially women, fail to go for cancer screening until it’s too late.

“One or two people we bury in Kilifi succumb to cancer. I have said often that this disease can be treated if detected early,” Kingi said.
