President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday praised the Kenya Defence Forces for maintaining high levels of discipline, earning them respect internationally.

He said soldiers are admired both locally and internationally for their discipline and professionalism in the UN peacekeeping missions in Africa, Europe and Asia.

“As Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, I take pride in the high standards that have been the hallmark of our Defence Forces,” Uhuru said.

He spoke when he presided over the graduation ceremony of 2,988 soldiers at the KDF Recruits Training School in Eldoret town.

Uhuru said soldiers’ continuous participation in missions reflects the confidence the United Nations and, in particular, the Security Council, has in the KDF.

“We should be proud of the confidence bestowed on our troops serving outside our country. We should also take pride of the commendable gains they have made in the war against terrorism,” he said.

The President presented awards to recruits who emerged the best in different fields.

Uhuru witnessed the passing out parade.

Irene Kaleka from the Kenya Army emerged the best overall recruit.
