Former minister Soita Shitanda is dead

Former Housing minister Soita Shitanda is dead.

The former Malava MP died at 2pm at the Nairobi Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition, a staff at the hospital told the star on Tuesday.

Shitanda 57, was the chairman of the Agricultural Development Corporation.

He represented Malava constituency since 1997 after he ousted the then minister of Health Joshua Angatia in the general election on a Ford Kenya ticket.

He was re-elected to parliament in 2002 on the NARC ticket and served as an assistant minister in the office of the President, before he was appointed minister for housing in a cabinet reshuffle in 2005.

Shitanda was reelected to parliament in 2007 and reappointed as housing minister.

Shitanda after decamping to UDF contested for Kakamega governor in 2013.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi send a message of condolence to the family, relatives and friends of Shitanda.

"He was a brother and confidante. The Luhya have lost a great son and leader," he said while at the mortuary to view the body.

Musalia said Shitanda was a sharp debater

and defender of development.
