End protests, end loss of lives, NGO council tells opposition

The Opposition has been asked to call off weekly demos pushing for the removal of IEBC commissioners.

In a statement on Tuesday, NGO council director, Stephen Cheboi said the continued planned protests may cause more harm that good in the country.

Cheboi asked Cord to "seek peaceful solutions", to stop the loss of lives and destruction of property.

"We further call on Jubilee to and we begin the process and National discussion with a view of ending the current deadlock and grievances on IEBC," the director added.

The statement comes a day after three people were shot, and more injured during the ongoing countrywide demonstrations. Two of the victims died in Siaya, while another succumbed to bullet wounds in Kisumu.

Monday was the fourth week of protests over the electoral commission, and arguably the worst so far.

Last week, there were as officers were photographed and filmed assaulting demonstrators in the capital’s central business district in images flashed around the world.
