Five Muslim legislators have said they will do all they can to ensure the IEBC commissioners stay in office.

They are Tana River woman representative Halima Ware and MPs Aden Duale (Garissa Township), Ali Wario (Bura), Rasso Dido (Saku) and Ibrahim Abass (Ijara).

Duale said Cord is “targeting” Muslims by calling for the disbanding of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Five out of the nine IEBC commissioners are Muslims.

They are Hassan, Mohmaed Alawi, Kule Godana, Yusuf Nzibo and Abdullahi Sharawe.

Duale said the constitution should not be applied “selectively” when dealing with issues of the national interest.

He spoke in Bangale, Bura constituency, on Sunday during a funds drive.

Duale said, “When Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero was accused of bribing Supreme Court judge Philip Tonui with Sh200 million,Cord leader Raila Odinga said the law should be followed when dealing with the matter. Why is it different when it comes to the IEBC?”

“The way he defended Kidero with vigour is the same way we leaders from the Muslim community will defend one of our own - Hassan.”
