The Catholic Church has urged Cord to stop countrywide protests against IEBC and use dialogue.

Nyeri Archbishop Peter Kairo yesterday said the opposition is taking Kenya back to the days of chaos, adding that the weekly demos might plunge the country into violence.

He was speaking during the first anniversary of Sister Nyaatha’s beatification at Dedan Kimathi Stadium.

Kairo said there is a need to respect the country and put aside individual interests.

“Only dialogue can solve this crisis, not demos. Let us sit together and solve this matter. I appeal to all Kenyans to maintain peace,” he said.

Kairo was with former head civil service Francis Kimemia, Dedan Kimathi University vice chancellor Ndirangu Kioni and businessmen Peter Mahu and Githinji Kinyanjui.

Kimemia said Cord must respect the rule of law and constitutional institutions.
