Cord leaders should stop misleading the youth by telling them to participate in anti-IEBC protests, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda has said.

Speaking at Landi Mawe chief's camp in Nairobi South B on Saturday, he said opposition leaders encourage unemployed youths to protest - instead of them using their time to look for jobs - "while their children live in leafy suburbs.

The MP met youths working for the NYS programme and urged them not to be used by the opposition "which is advancing its agenda of taking power through unconstitutional means".

"I would be happy to see Cord co-principals' children leading from the front in demonstrations and being beaten and teargassed by police the way commoners are," Kamanda said.

He said opposition leaders, especially those elected, should start projects for the youth and encourage them to work "instead of leading them to destroying property ".

Traders whose businesses were destroyed during protests against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will sue Cord leaders, Kamanda said.

"Businesspeople are making losses and the Nairobi government is losing revenue. We will not sit back and watch as more harm is done to the city," he said.

Kamanda said Cord should use the right channel to remove IEBC chairman Isaack Hassan and other commissioners.

Several youths were injured and property looted during Cord protests last week. The police were accused of using excessive force to disperse protestors.

The opposition said it will hold protests outside the IEBC headquarters at Anniversary Towers every Monday until commissioners resign.
