Mombasa assembly speaker and an MCA were arrested in a bid to disperse hundreds of protesters demanding the removal of IEBC commissioners.
Speaker Thadius Rajwahi and Junda MCA Paul Onje were among those arrested and booked at Central police station in Mombasa.
Witnesses said police had earlier been seen patrolling the streets in riot gear, while businesses remained closed for fear of looting.

of protesters were seen waving placards reading "IEBC must go home now".
A contingent of GSU officers was deployed at Uhuru Garden along Moi Avenue where Cord leaders are expected to start their demonstration.

deputy party leader Hassan Ali Joho was expected to lead the protest.
