It was shameful for Mombasa MCAs to fight in the chamber, Governor Hassan Joho has said.

Joho on Saturday

said that while he was away in Turkey for the Strong Cities Network Summit, he was astonished to see on news the MCAs physically fighting inside the assembly.

He said he will convene

a meeting in his office and the two factions that were fighting will talk and come up with an amicable solution.

“As your governor, I do not want to see this happen again,” Joho told the MCAs during the County Premier League Awards ceremony outside the county assembly buildings.

“It is shameful to see MCAs, who should be supporting devolution, fight inside the assembly instead of coming up with development agenda.”

Joho said he is, however, happy that the assembly leadership has publicly apologised for what happened two weeks ago.

He said after meeting the two factions, he will officially open the assembly.

Two warring camps emerged; one supporting speaker Thaddeus Rajwayi and the other backing nominated MCA Mohamed Hatimy.

Hatimy’s camp wanted to impeach Rajwayi over his "style of leadership".

On the other hand, the MCAs supporting the speaker hatched a plan to remove Hatimy and his allies from the leadership of assembly committees.

According to insiders, this was an aim to punish the "errant" MCAs who wanted to impeach Rajwayi.

This led to two-day chaos and fist fight among the MCAs, as each camp wanted to take over the control of the assembly.
