Politicians from Homa Bay who pay youth to demonstrate in town will be named and shamed, county commissioner Kassim Farrah has said.

He said politicians are using the youth for selfish gain.

Speaking to journalists in his office on Thursday, Farrah said they have information that elected and aspiring leaders send money to the youth for the protests.

“Homa Bay town was peaceful for the better part of day. At around 3pm when they sent money, the youth began the anti-IEBC demonstrations. We will name and shame them,” he said, referring to Cord's protests to remove electoral agency officials from office.

Farrah said they are investigating the politicians and legal action will be taken against them.

“Picketing is allowed in the constitution, but not to infringe on others right,” he said.

Farrah, the County Security Committee chairman, said they will not allow illegal demonstrations.

He instead called for a notification of nearest security officers 24 hours before protests are held.

“I assure you nobody is ready to interfere with any demonstration done within the law since our work is to protect wananchi,” Farrah said.

The commissioner said unlawful demos interfere with economic growth.

“The Homa Bay business community has complained of huge losses they incur during demonstrations. Let's work together for everybody to transact their business,” he added.

Farrah at the same time urged the business community to co-operate with security agencies.

“There is mutual benefit in working together. After all, it doesn’t benefit anybody to cause chaos,” he said.
