Abolish female donkey ban, vets chairman says

A donkey is being treated at Central park in Nanyuki town on Tuesday during the Donkey Day celebrations. Calls were made to have the directive issued during colonial era that female donkeys be banned from the town be lifted.

A tale is told of how female donkeys were banned in Nanyuki town during the colonial era after two of them mated at a hotel. The British hotel owner was so infuriated she sought to have them banned.

On Tuesday, during the National Donkey Day, vet association chair Samuel Kahariri said such laws need to be scrapped to respect animal rights.
