Georgie Bell is the global Luxury Malts Ambassador for Diageo, a British multinational alcoholic beverages giant headquartered in London, England.

Diageo is the world's largest producer of spirits and a major producer of beer and wine.

It's brands include Smirnoff (the world's best-selling vodka), Johnnie Walker (the world's best-selling blended Scotch whisky), Baileys (the world's best-selling liqueur) and Guinness (the world's best-selling stout).

It also owns 34 per cent of Moët Hennessy, which owns brands including Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy.

The Scottish, whom last year was named in the Management Today's list of '35 Women Under 35' in the world, is in Kenya for a number of activities.

“I am in Kenya for a lot of reasons,” she told Word Is in an interview.

“First, I was here for the Kenyan finals of the World Class bartending competition. On Tuesday, we found our Kenya's best bartender and she is on her way to Miami to take part in the competition's global finals in September.”

Is it your first time in Kenya?

“Not just my first time in Kenya, but in Africa. Being in Kenya is great. It's really exciting,” says Georgie.

She adds: “Over the weekend, I will be going to Taita Hills, just to see around. I will also celebrate the World Whisky Day at Nairobi's Tamasha Lavington on Saturday. I am ever fascinated by food and the entire culinary scene, and there is no lack of that in Kenya.”

She says that the world has changed and that it has never been a matter of gender when it comes to working in the whisky industry.

Georgie adds that she spends nine months in a year traveling and talking to people about scotch whisky.
