Private security firms will be regulated more closely after the Private Security Industry Regulation Bill became law. The law calls for the registration of all security firms, training of personnel and proper remuneration for all private security guards.

It will also provide for guidelines for foreign ownership and control of businesses operating as security service providers. The new law will provide for the establishment of the Private Security Regulatory Authority.

The Authority, which will have its headquarters in Nairobi, will be a corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal. The Authority will ensure reasonable access to its services in all parts of the republic. It will set standards, create an enforcement mechanisms, improve personnel welfare and offer redress from unscrupulous players.
