A Kisii governor hopeful in the 2017 race yesterday said an agreement signed prior to the 2013 election on sharing seats must be honoured.

South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya, who has declared his interest in the post, said seats should be shared equally among the clans. He said it was agreed that the governor seat goes to Kisii Central for one term, then to Gucha in 2017. Nyamweya said the agreement dictates that the senator seat goes to Gucha, deputy governor to Bomachoge, Nyaribari gets the speaker, woman representative to Bonchari and the county secretary to South Mugirango.

Speaking on the phone, Nyamweya criticised Senator Chris Obure, Governor James Ongwae and woman representative Mary Otara for breaching the agreement. On Monday, Obure and Ongwae said no agreement was signed. The senator said people will vote based on leaders’ merit and development record.
