Young women doing business have been asked to vie for elective posts in the next general elections.

Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja said that young women in business were doing a great service to the country.

“Young people in business are resilient, this is how diverse leadership is built. A prosperous country is made of such people,” Sakaja said.

Sakaja made the sentiments during the Kenya Chamber of Commerce and Industry's young women in business chapter on Friday.

The MP, who is also seeking the Nairobi governor position, also said that women must take a lead role in fighting for what is rightfully theirs.

“Sectors with more women participation have registered significant growth over time. Marginalization of women creates circles of underdevelopment. We belong fully to the economic life of this country, and so don't lay back,” Sakaja said.

He added that one of the ways of empowering women is ensuring that they equally take part in procurement opportunities.

He also encouraged young people not to seek shortcuts in business as integrity will make them succeed more.

“For more opportunities to be created, first make use of the opportunities that are already there. As young people we need to rise up and grind. If you are not part of the negotiating table, ensure you are in the menu,” Sakaja added.
